Who We Are
Our Story
Rainbow Disability Nepal (RDN) was first started as a loose network for Queer Persons with Disabilities / Queer Disability (QD) community in 2019. Later, on 11th November 2022, it was registered as Indreni Apangata Nepal (Rainbow Disability Nepal), the first non-Governmental organization working for the Queer Persons with Disabilities / Queer Disability (QD) population in Nepal. RDN works to ensure the basic human rights for the Queer Persons with Disabilities / Queer Disability (QD) across the country, and has plan to work internationally in future too. It’s a first organization that works for people who identify themselves as Disable and LGBTQIA++. On these interactional issues we work with Disability, LGBTQIA++, Queer Persons with Disability / QD and Disabled Person Living with HIV.
RDN aims to empower Queer Persons with Disabilities / Queer Disability (QD) youths psychologically and economically by establishing Acceptance and Inclusion of Queer Persons with Disabilities / Queer Disability (QD) in Nepal. RDN has been conducting series of awareness and advocacy programs since 2021 through youth led groups and government officials as well.
The issues of disability with LGBTQIA++ is different than the issues of LGBTQIA++ common people without disability. However, these both groups of population are suppressed by the majority of common hetro-societies. This new issues with disabled homosexual community is rising in the LGBTI community. Moreover the Queer Persons with Disabilities / Queer Disability (QD) are not seen actively participating in the society due to exclusion, compelling them to feel like they don’t belong anywhere. Therefore, Rainbow Disability Nepal is trying to sketch the programs further to represent their voices to bigger platform and to make each and every individual belonging to to this minor community feel empowered and that their life and voice matter too.

The rights of the Nepalese citizens have been ensured in the National constitution 2072 (2015) but most of them are not seen in practicum. Even within community people are not aware about Sex, Gender Sexuality. Therefore, RDN is working for Disabled LGBTQIA++ in various sector such as HIV/SRHR, Education, SDG, Human Right, Disability Technology, Proposal and Administrative as well.
The general hetro-societies as well as the LGBTQIA++ communities need to be aware about the rising issues of Queer Persons with Disabilities / Queer Disability (QD) and that they also should be given equal opportunities of empowerment and inclusion in the society. Issues of Queer Persons with Disabilities / Queer Disability (QD) need to be brought up in the mainstream human-rights programs too. It will surely empower Disabled LGBTQIA++ youths psychologically and economically to live a better life through awareness, advocacy as well as vocational training programs and will definitely leave a mark in establishing Acceptance & Inclusion of them in the society.
Besides these all, Rainbow Disability Nepal have set the plans in motion to do the lobby and advocacy with concerned government stakeholders and people related to this minor community to elevate this movement of Queer Persons with Disabilities / Queer Disability (QD) people to national and international level.
